The Fruit and Nut Foundation returned to the Sacramento pear farm that has been a fantastic partner in our mission to reduce food waste and support our communities. Thanks to the generous support of the farm owners, who once again kindly allowed us to pick pre-harvest, we managed to collect an impressive 800 pounds of pears for donation.
The orchard was alive with ripe Green Anjou and Bosc pears, their bright colors shining under the California sun. Our dedicated team, driven by passion and a common goal, carefully worked through the rows, filling bins with these nutritious fruits. The outcome? A day filled with teamwork, determination, and a bountiful harvest ready to make a positive impact.
Incorporating pears into meals not only enhances flavor but also improves diet quality and helps maintain a healthy weight. We’re excited that these fruits will aid Martha’s Kitchen in their mission to deliver wholesome meals.
Facing Challenges with Resilience: Harvesting in the August heat was no small feat. The temperatures rose steadily throughout the day, a reminder of the record-breaking summer heatwaves. Yet, the spirit of our team remained strong. With plenty of water breaks, shared laughter, and the motivation of knowing we were making a difference, we pushed through!
