A Record-Breaking Harvest: 1,040 Pounds of Pears Donated

The Fruit and Nut Foundation is excited to share a remarkable story of resilience, generosity, and community impact—this time featuring a record-breaking donation of 1,040 pounds of pears! Returning to the same Sacramento pear farm that has generously supported our mission in the past, our team reached a new milestone, harvesting an impressive amount that included a significantly larger share of Green Anjou pears than ever before.

Having worked at this farm before, we thought we knew what to expect. But this time, we had come post-harvest with Green Anjou pears at their peak. Unlike previous trips where our harvest was evenly split between Bosc and Green Anjou, this day’s efforts brought in significantly more of the green variety—crisp, sweet, and perfect for donation.

The experience was both familiar and unique: we navigated the same orchard paths, but this time, with the challenge of harvesting and transporting over 1,000 pounds of fruit. It was an ambitious goal, but our team rose to the occasion, energized by the thought of the impact this donation would have.

We were able to split this massive harvest between two incredible organizations:

  • Sacred Heart Community Service: They received 800 pounds of pears to support their mission of providing food, clothing, and critical services to families in need. Sacred Heart has long been a cornerstone of hope for the community, and we’re proud to contribute to their efforts.

  • Martha’s Kitchen: Continuing our partnership, we donated 240 pounds of pears to this amazing nonprofit, where the fruit will be transformed into fresh, nutritious meals for those they serve.

This harvest wasn’t just about numbers—it was a testament to what’s possible when communities come together to address food waste and hunger. With this donation, we’re making strides toward our mission of creating a more equitable and sustainable food system!
